About the blog

Purposeful Fun is ATRA's monthly blog (published on LinkedIn), aimed at increasing awareness of Recreational Therapy and the vital role that Recreational Therapists play in the many areas we practice in. The October Edition of Purposeful Fun is Here!

Why Artificial Intelligence Will Never Replace Recreational Therapists

Early presentations on Artificial Intelligence (AI) at Recreational Therapy conferences often focused on explaining what AI is and how it might be used. Many of those talks felt rushed and lacked a clear focus, prompting reflection on how to slow down and break the vast amount of information into smaller, more digestible pieces.

Today, we focus on a key question: Is AI positioned to make Recreational Therapists unnecessary? In this blog, we argue that the short answer is no. While AI can assist and enhance the work of Recreational Therapists, it cannot replace the heart, creativity, and human connection that lie at the center of this profession.
